the internet

The internet is a global networks that is linking together billions of computers all around the world; that consists of millions of private, public, academic, business, and government networks, providing high speed for communicating for all of these institutions. Users connect to the Internet via high-speed broadband Internet services such as, DSL, WIFI, etc.

Early history

The first appearance of the internet was back in 1969 as a result of a project called Arpanet related to the United States Department of Defense.

This project was made to help the U.S army through computer networks and linking universities and research institutions utilizing the capacity of computers for human benefits.

On the first of January 1983 The United States Department of Defense replaced the protocol that was applicable in the past and that helped the network to grow and develop.

Some examples of Internet connectivity:

Search engines and directories: -

These are specialized programs in network connectivity according to the user that make it easy to effortlessly search term, where the user puts keywords to be searched. And it is connected to many sites in order to extract information and data Categorise them and the most famous search engine giant  is Google.

World Wide Web:-

E-mail

It is the exchange of e-mails quickly, and here I mean electronic messages information, data and images. Among the most famous are  Hotmail and Gmail.

Social media sites:

These are where social news is exchanged among members of the community, which is about sites involving users to exchange views and ideas.

Web sites:

These are programs that allow for the display of information and data .

Meetings and conferences:

Here users can check the Internet to see what is being offered at meetings and conferences through transfer programs and audio over the network.

Electronic universities:

The new institutions are using the Internet as a means of disseminating knowledge and linking students, and often rely on university forums that will enable them to speed communication and open direct rooms for discussion and dialogue between students and professors.

Internet disadvantages:

There are too many disadvantages of the Internet, such as: 1 - Piracy and the hacking of some websites -2-reducing individuals family and social times with friends and family 3- health risk ; sitting for a long time behind a computer screen can cause a lots of damages to human eyes ,reducing the sight ability ,and affecting the back side of the body.

Linking to business:-

Internet and marketing

The internet has become a large market for companies; some large companies inflated their work and took advantage of low cost advertising and trade online, which is known as                       e-commerce. It is the fastest way to disseminate information to a large number of individuals. As a result, the Internet caused a revolution in the world of work shopping. For example, someone could be asked to buy a CD online and it will be received via regular mail within two days, or can be downloaded directly via the internet if possible. Internet also has facilitated the personal shopping process, which allows a company to market a product for a particular person or a particular group of people in a way that is better than any advertising medium.

As examples of personal
shopping, online communities are entered by thousands of Internet users to declare themselves and hold friendships across the network. Since the users of these communities  are between the ages of 13 and 25 years, they declare their hobbies and interests and here marketing companies online use this information to advertise products that meet their desires and interests; you can shop from anywhere in the world via the Internet.

Conclusion:-

In my opinion I believe that internet could be a very useful tool and on the other hand it could be harmful if it was used on the wrong way we must avoid it is  dangerous uses because it’s going to spread s;o rapidly in future; the statistics says that internet usage has  highly  increasedthe last few years .

Reflection 1

In this semester we started late because of changing the teachers and schedule many times, but now we are back on the track again.

We started to learn how to write a summary; it was very easy for us because we used to do this. The first practice was Emirati police patrolling; the next practice was North African Houbara bustards; both practices provided some good new information about the topic , and it helped us to know how to write a summary about any subject with our new writing skills.

After finishing the summary practice we started the real work, the assessed summaries; they are worth a lot of marks. The first one was desert milk and the other was desert survivals; they gave us good interesting information too. Mr. Hedley helped us with correcting our writing mistakes to get excellent marks; great thanks to him.

We ended the two assignments before Eid Al Adha ; after that directly Mr Hedley gave us an idea about new assignments and an idea about accurate referencing.

The desert is a hard environment to live in because of hot weather and the rare resources of water . Beduins adapted to the desert so they started to dig wells and look for any source of water . The second benefit of wells besides water is they can guide or navigat through the desert . In order to find a perfect digging spot for a well they followed bird flight or looked vegetation .They chose one man to do the job with his own bare hands,it took maybe 3 to 4 months to finish the job. They named the well after his name to honour him. There is a substitute for water and its the milk of camels and goats . Bwduins can survive without water for maybe more than 24 hours because their bodies adjust through sweat.

The African haboura

The African houbara bustard has become endangered because of over-hunting and destroying the environment they live in.  These birds live in small areas of land, in a few countries.  An organization called the Emarati Center for Wild Propagation has observed that danger so they made a moves and plans to prevent it. They wanted to protect the birds and reproduce them.Between opening 1995 and last year they has produced more than 60000 of the birds and its cost allot of money to  let  that happened  .The centres are financed by the Abu Dhabi Government and they have been successful in increasing the density of the bustard population.which  has increased in the past ten years, they keep most of it and send few numbers to nature ,they also train houbara for hunting ,so they can be familiar by humans and to be easy to be used .
